This project began with a simple intention: to create a source of passive income for the client, within a tightly controlled budget.

The solution was a compact 60sqm granny flat with two bedrooms and an open-plan kitchen and living space oriented towards the northern sun. By getting the fundamentals right—orientation, planning and passive solar design—the project achieved a 7.2-star energy rating while reducing the need for costly underslab insulation.
